Update: The new Ratchet & Clank patch which boosts the release's performance to 60 frames-per-second on PS5 is available to download now. The update weighs in at 87.17MB, so shouldn't take too long to pull depending on your Internet speed. Will you be checking the title out on Sony's next-gen console?
Original Story: Ratchet & Clank, the PlayStation 4 remake of the original game which is currently available free as part of Sony’s brilliant Play At Home promotion, is getting a 60 frames-per-second update on PlayStation 5 next month. The ever-industrious Insomniac Games – fresh from releasing Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered last year, with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on the way – confirmed the patch for the 2016 title on Twitter.
The original game – which is the best-selling entry in the series so far – ran at a smooth 30 frames-per-second on PS4, although it was upgraded to a higher resolution on PS4 Pro. It’s unclear whether there will be any other improvements beyond the framerate, but this is an extremely welcome addition, and will certainly encourage us to run through the release again. If you haven’t added the title to your library yet, you have a couple more days to do so – don’t miss out!

Turn down the motion blur. Jesus christ.
That's all I'd need.
This is very welcome news, I will certainly be replaying this!
Love you, Insomniac Games!
Excellent. I only played this game for the first time a few months ago. Been meaning to give it another run. Awesome as always from Insomniac.
Unrelated: @get2sammyb Did you get the email from Sony about the legacy storefronts? I just got it a few minutes ago.
@Shepherd_Tallon No, could you forward if possible? sammy [at] pushsquare [dot] com.
@get2sammyb Sent it on to you just now.
Giving the game away for free AND adding a 60fps patch to the PS5 is very nice
Props to you, Sony
Brilliant news! Now HZD next
Insomniac you guys are just the greatest ^__^
Great news indeed. Play through this again before Rift Apart👍👍
That's what I'm talking about!
Awesome news! I’ve been vocal in the past about my disappointment in this one being 30fps after the PS3 entries were 60fps.
Wow! I WILL replay this
They need to do this for horizon this the least Sony can do it’s already 60fps on a non PlayStation platform.
Awesome news!! Literally playing through the HD collection of the original 3 and gladiator on ps3 as well as Tools of Destruction/Quest for Booty/Crack in Time/Into the Nexus in anticipation of Rift Apart.
So will boot this up as well to play in 60fps 👍
Should definitely improve all of the bits and bobbles flying around everywhere as you play, as well as the combat obviously. Good excuse to actually finish the game 😭
Looks like I'm going to play it for a 4th time to check it out . Can't wait for the new one!
Damn I played this 3 times for the Platinum lol as much I love this game idk if I want to beat it again just for the 60 Frames 😣
@4kgk2 If Guerilla Games Doesn't Do It When The Game Goes Free Then They Don't Care.
Of course I JUST replayed it lmao.
I guess I could still do the challenge mode or whatever it was called
Btw I literally said to friend earlier today that all this game needs on PS5 is 60 fps because it already looks fantastic otherwise.
I have the plat, meaning two playthroughs, so have no desire to go back again with so many great games still to be played, but nice to see. Hoping they at least uncap The Last Guardian.
Right let's give Insomniac Bloodbourne plz.
Now that is a welcomed patch.
Of course I just finished it lol. But will be great to replay once this update is out. Exactly same thing happened with GoW, update just few days after I finished it.
Now I don't want to touch TLoU2 and RDR2 before 60fps is out. If ever for RDR2.
due to a trophy not unlocking on a second run, i played this through 3 times to get the platinum - not sure i could play through it again, even if the last time was nearly 5 years ago. hoping for a 60fps + 1080p+ ray-tracing performance mode though for Rift Apart.. it worked great in spiderman remastered.
And I just got the platinum earlier this year. Oh well, good game, really enjoyed it.
Super nice, I'll be replaying this
Perfect update before Rift Apart releases.
Was planning to do another replay (I've played it a bunch over the years) before Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, guess this time it'll be on PS5. Appreciate the work Insomniac puts into its games, there's a reason it's long been my favorite PlayStation dev, even before officially becoming a first party.
Insomniac LIED TO US lol
Looks amazing - or, how Richard Leadbetter would say, transformative.
@Max_the_German Yes! Please we get that before the complete version drops for us all next month!
I've downloaded the update but after being so used to the game being 30fps, the game being in 60 just looks really unnatural lol
Still looks awesome
Patchet & Clank
This is great, now just for Uncharted 4.....
I got it for free with Play at Home so I will have to try it soon.
60 FPS Sheepinating? Sounds fun 😎
@rjc-32 or The Last of Us 2.
Can't believe they were only bought for like $227 million. What a steal, honestly.
Aw man, now I need to play this a third time!
Gravity Rush 2 and HzD next, please! Even though we all know they DGAF about GR2.
@arsmolinarc Not my cup of tea to be honest, I started to watch a let’s play of the first game years back and didn’t really like the characters. I’m sure it’s a great game for many though, betting that it will be patched at some point.
@4kgk2 this could be a sign that horizon will get the same patch since it will be free in april.
Don't Insomniac ever Sleep...
I am sooooo glad SONY bought them because they are better than the Billion dollar game makers you know who have bought
Insomniac are true workhorses, always getting things done with high quality and speed! Already platinum’d this gem but I might have to boot it up just to see how it looks and feels in 60fps.
Fantastic studio! Would have gone to Microsoft if Sony hadn’t acquired them
Perfect timing, as I was getting ready to do the plat run! Thank you Insomniac!!
Nice. I will probably play it again later.
Great news!
Greatness has returned for the series. I hope Rift Apart keeps up with this tradition.
Welp, time to finally dust this off and remove it from the pile of shame!
I haven't actually played this yet, so this is great news! I probably won't feel the "upgrade" as much as those who have already played it in 30fps though.
Wow. I have zero sense of 60 FPS. I just completed this game last month and I thought I WAS playing in 60fps. And I keep jumping between performance mode on Spider-man and can’t see a difference. Been playing AC: Odyssey on my Series X and thought that was smooth 60fps. Nope! What is wrong with my eyes???
HYPE! I plan to do a fresh replay of R&C 2016 one month before Rift Apart drops, should give me plenty of breathing room to finish it.
I'd never played this game before it was free recently. I'd also never been a '60 fps snob' but the experience of playing this on ps5 has totally changed my mind on framerate.
Really struggled playing it prior to the patch, after experiencing ghost of tsushima and cyberpunk on ps5 at 60fps, ratchet felt and looked horrible to the point of making me feel a bit nauseous. This 60fps patch makes it feel like a totally new game to me
